Latest Euro NCAP safety ratings: Mercedes-Benz E-Class vs Peugeot 3008

This is not a competition. And these vehicles are in different classes. So could we compare their safety features? Spoiler alert: they both get a five star Euro NCAP rating! I guess then, comparison is not relevant, and the fact they were tested and results released together is also immaterial.
The Mercedes-Benz E-Class comes with AEB across the range, among other standard safety features. The Peugot 3008 is a small off-roader and has a speed assistance system and lane departure warning as standard, while AEB is available as an option.
The NCAP testing system is a guide to how well a vehicle handles a variety of crash situations. Specific stressors are measured from “weak” to “good”, and points accorded. A five star award is the highest rating.
peugeot-3008-2016-rearFor the Peugot the passenger compartment of the 3008 remained stable in the offset frontal impact test. While it was revealed that in certain instances only adequate protection was given to the driver’s chest and neck, the vehicle provided five star safety protection to adult drivers and passengers. Some of the 3008 model range is equipped with an emergency braking system which would further protect against whiplash injuries. However, these improvements were excluded in this assessment because it is not a standard feature.
Children in car seats may only experience adequate protection in offset frontal impacts, but good protection to all critical body areas in the available positions was found across the rest of the vehicle crash tests. The 3008 comes with isofix as well as the ability to disable the front airbag for installation of rearward facing child seats.
Pedestrians on the whole only received adequate protection with areas of greatest stress being around the pillars and corners of the vehicle. Other safety features such as speed-detecting cameras are available, but not standard.
mercedes-benz-e-class-19The Mercedes-Benz E-Class is fitted as standard with the manufacturer’s ‘PRE SAFE” system that primes the restraint and protection systems in readiness for a potential collision. For these tests, the system was not activated. The passenger compartment remained stable. As with many vehicles, a marginal reading on the chest of the rear passenger was measured. Full marks were awarded to the E-Class for avoiding impact against a stationary cars at all test speeds.
Even the front passenger seat makes driving this car easy: it automatically detects a rear-facing child seat or large child/adult and operates or deactivates the airbag accordingly. Generally pedestrians were well protected, apart from the pelvis area. The vehicle again scored highly because of sensors that helps prepare itself for impact. Again, Mercedes-Benz have provided a vehicle that performs well overall
