SA Air Travel Updates: New Hand baggage policy & State Airline to Change Cancellation Rules.

image003New Hand baggage policy for all travellers in South Africa

As from 2 February 2015, ACSA will assist airlines with re-enforcing a stricter hand baggage policy of one piece at 7kg and a *slim line laptop bag or a small hand bag.

In effect, only two items are allowed. The dimensions for the 7kg bag should be: 56cm (L) x 36cm (B) x 23 cm (H); total dimensions are 115cm including handles and wheels. Travellers who don’t meet these requirements will be sent back to the relevant airline’s check-in counters.

Beware that ACSA regards a slim line laptop bag  as one that is specifically designed to fit a laptop and a charger, not clothing and documents.

South African Airways and SA express new Rules on open tickets

As from mid January 2015, passengers can no longer cancel their SAA or SA express tickets without giving the new dates of travel at the same time. In the past, travellers were still allowed to an extent, to cancel their dates on tickets and keep the tickets for later use, especially Corporate travellers, but this is no longer case. At the time of cancelling your dates on your current ticket, you will need to give new alternative travel dates and pay the applicable change fee at the same time.
