The twisted purple and green track; crazy, unexpected maneuvers; and frenetic, one-of-a-kind elements, are just a few of the reasons The Joker at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom is one of the year’s most anticipated new roller coasters. The park is inaugurating this state-of-the-art extreme wood and steel coaster with Bay Area comedians as the official first riders while the evil Super-Villain himself – the Joker lends his diabolical presence.
“This is a stand-out among extreme coasters,” said Don McCoy, park president. “I’ve never seen this kind of anticipation by the public for any new ride and it doesn’t disappoint. The experience adds tremendously to the park’s status as Northern California’s most thrilling theme park.”
The Joker coaster is the second DC Comics-themed attraction at the park after SUPERMAN™ Ultimate Flight opened in 2012 and the villainous character’s personality is evident in the coaster’s chaotic twists and turns, including a first ever “step-up under-flip inverted roll.” The Joker ride also features the ultimate “fake-out” with a unique breaking wave turn, the only one of its kind on the West Coast.
The Joker ride puts ou through 3,200 feet of dual-colored purple and green track featuring;
A wild Zero G barrel roll;
A 180 degree stall;
78 degree drop from 100 ft. height
An Asian camel hump
3 wild inversions;
15 extreme airtime moments; and maximum speeds of 53 mph
In addition, the ride entry features a bright and colorful funhouse theme, as guests enter through the open mouth of a gargantuan clown face. Funhouse elements like giant chattering teeth and letters spelling “Ha Ha Ha” celebrate the Joker’s wicked sense of humor.
Guests will depart the almost two-minute long ride through the vibrant Funhouse Shoppe, an all-new retail location selling Joker-related merchandise. And the former Tsunami Soaker ride has been renamed The Penguin, as this dastardly villain takes over this fun, interactive water-based attraction.
The Joker ride was transformed from the park’s iconic and traditional wooden coaster, Roar by Rocky Mountain Construction, updating Roar’s wooden structure with the most up-to-date and innovative technologies. The Joker ride will officially open to the public on Sunday, May 29.
